Distressing – Glossary

Distressing is a term applied to other processes of ageing genuine wood floor boards – again, it is normally applied to Oak flooring. It normally entails slightly damaging and bruising the Oak (or other species) by mechanical means, in order to make the floor boards look old. Such processes can include impacting the flooring with a heavy chain or hammer, applying small holes with a dot punch to mimic pin work hole, scorching the surface or indenting the edges of boards, again to give an aged effect.
